Case IH 18063 – Armrest Control Module (ACM): EEPROM fault
Issue description
The internal memory of the controller has failed a checksum test, encountered a read/write error, or suffered a physical hardware defect. The EEPROM is responsible for storing the tractor's configuration data, calibration values, and operating parameters.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Power cycle the tractor by shutting it down completely, turning off the battery disconnect switch for a few minutes, and restarting to see if the fault is an intermittent glitch caused by voltage fluctuations.
Verify that the Armrest Control Module has a clean, stable connection to the battery and is properly grounded. Inspect the main harness connectors (e.g., 17-pin connectors, CN2) for corrosion, loose pins, or moisture.
Check the instrument cluster for default resets. If valid engine hours are lost due to an EEPROM checksum failure, the controller may reset the engine hour meter to a default value (often 50000.0 hours).
Attempt to recalibrate the armrest instrumentation using the dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST). If the controller refuses to accept or hold the calibration, the EEPROM is permanently defective.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the ACM
Remove the plastic trim panels and covers on the right-hand operator armrest console.
Disconnect Harnesses
Carefully unplug the wiring harnesses connected to the Armrest Control Module (depending on the model, this may include H1, H4, and H13 connectors, or a primary 17-pin connector).
Remove the Module
Unbolt the retaining screws holding the ACM to the armrest frame and remove the faulty board/unit.
Install the New Module
Mount the replacement Armrest Control Module and securely reconnect all wiring harnesses.
Reassemble
Reinstall the armrest covers and trim panels.
Program and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop. You must program the new ACM with the correct tractor configuration (variant numbers) and perform all required baseline calibrations (e.g., EHR remote levers, hitch potentiometers, and transmission controls).
