Case IH 18065 – Armrest Control Module (ACM) / Armrest Control Unit (GARU): MFH (multi-function handle) basic assurance test error

The Multi-Function Handle (MFH) has failed its internal self-test or 'basic assurance check'. This indicates an internal hardware fault, software glitch, or communication failure within the joystick itself.

   Check for Companion Codes: Look for other MFH-related codes that might pinpoint a wiring issue, such as 18007 (MFH switch error), 18008/18009 (MFH voltage too low/high), 18013 (MFH encoder position error), or 18064 (MFH communication error).

   Inspect the Harness: Remove the armrest trim and inspect the wiring harness connecting the MFH to the Armrest Control Module. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connections.

   Check the Connector: Disconnect the MFH and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.

   Test Voltage/Ground: Verify that the MFH is receiving proper reference voltage and ground from the ACM.

   Conclusion: If the wiring is intact, the connector is clean, and voltage is present, the internal circuitry of the MFH has failed and the handle must be replaced.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts or accidental module damage.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws for the right-hand armrest console trim/cover to expose the base of the Multi-Function Handle.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the multi-pin electrical connector at the base of the MFH.

   Remove the Handle

   Remove the mounting bolts/screws securing the MFH assembly to the armrest frame. Lift the faulty handle out of the console.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the replacement MFH into the armrest and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the base of the new MFH, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest console trim and covers.

   Restore Power & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition ON. Use the AFS Pro monitor or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 18065 fault code. Depending on the tractor model, a quick armrest/joystick calibration may be required via the display monitor to sync the new handle's encoders with the ACM.
