Case IH 18066 – Armrest Controller (ACM): EHR (remote valve) 1 lever implausibility error

Issue description

The control module is receiving an illogical, conflicting, or out-of-range electrical signal from the internal potentiometers inside the #1 Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) control lever.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Steiger
  • Quadtrac
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • T7
  • T8
  • T9

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the #1 lever physically moves smoothly and springs back to the neutral position without binding.

  2. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of the #1 lever for backed-out pins, chafed wires, or corrosion.

  3. Attempt to recalibrate the EHR levers to correct neutral deadband drift before replacing parts.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent shorting any armrest modules.

  2. Disassemble the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws securing the top cover/bezel of the right-hand armrest console. Carefully lift the cover to expose the EHR lever modules.

  3. Remove the Faulty Lever

Locate the #1 lever (usually the furthest left or front, depending on the model). Disconnect its electrical connector.

  4. Swap the Module

Remove the mounting screws holding the lever assembly to the armrest bracket. Pull the old lever out and drop the new lever into place. Secure it with the mounting hardware and plug in the electrical connector.

  5. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest cover and reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibrate the New Lever

Hold the 'PROG' key while turning the ignition key to the ON position. Navigate to the 'ARM' section to find the lever calibration menu. Pull the lever fully back, push it fully forward, and then let it return to neutral. Turn the key OFF and wait 30 seconds before restarting the tractor to save the values.
