Case IH 18069 – Armrest Control Module (ACM): EHR 4 lever implausibility error

Issue description

The signal coming from the #4 Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) control lever is implausible. The potentiometer or sensor inside the lever is sending a voltage signal to the controller that is erratic, out of the expected range, or failing to properly return to the neutral position.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum
  • Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac
  • Case IH Puma
  • Case IH Maxxum

Check the cause

  1. Check the physical condition of the #4 EHR lever on the armrest to ensure it moves smoothly, does not stick, and springs back to the center/neutral position on its own.

  2. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the EHR 4 lever and the Armrest Control Module for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

  3. Use the tractor's in-cab diagnostic display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live voltage/percentage of the EHR 4 lever position. Move the lever through its full range of motion and watch for erratic voltage drops, spikes, or dead spots.

  4. Look for accompanying voltage codes that can confirm a circuit failure, such as 18048 (EHR 4 lever position - voltage too low) or 18049 (EHR 4 lever position - voltage too high).

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Levers

Remove the retaining screws on the MultiControl Armrest console to lift the cover panel and access the EHR lever assemblies.

  3. Disconnect the Faulty Lever

Locate the #4 EHR lever (often color-coded). Disconnect its 4-pin electrical connector from the armrest wire harness.

  4. Remove the Lever

Unbolt the mounting hardware (typically 4 mounting holes on the side of the lever body) and remove the faulty lever assembly.

  5. Install the New Part

Mount the replacement EHR lever into the armrest console and secure the hardware. Reconnect the electrical connector.

  6. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest cover panel and reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Calibrate

You must perform an EHR lever calibration procedure using the tractor's display menu or the EST. This allows the Armrest Control Module to learn the new lever's exact minimum, maximum, and neutral voltage values.

  8. Test

Clear the fault codes and test the #4 remote valve with an implement or hydraulic motor to ensure normal operation without locking out.
