Case IH 1818 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU Watchdog fault
Issue description
The internal processor clock has failed, the software has locked up, or there is a critical internal hardware failure within the module. This fault triggers a Red master telltale warning lamp.

Check the cause
Check Power Supply: Verify the wiring harness, relays, and fuses supplying power to the ECU. An interruption in power supply or severe voltage drop can sometimes cause the internal watchdog timer to trip.
Reset the ECU: Clear the fault codes and cycle the key/power to reset the ECU.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the battery to ensure safety before working on the electrical system.
Remove defective ECU
Locate and remove the defective ISM-DI Engine Controller (ECU).
Install replacement ECU
Install the replacement Engine Controller.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Program new ECU
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). You must follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters and write the correct injector codes to the new ECU.
