Case IH 18264 (518415.03, 518415.04) - ACML – ACML: Joystick Proportional Rocker Switch ACML - error state
Issue description
Indicates a voltage or signal plausibility issue with the proportional rocker switch located on the multi-function control lever (joystick). Voltage is either too low (short to ground/0V) or too high (short to 12V), or there is an incorrect configuration within the Armrest Control Module (ACM).
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case STX Steiger tractors (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600 horsepower models)
Check the cause
Verify the Armrest Control Module (ACM) configuration using the electronic service tool (EST) to rule out false joystick rocker switch voltage errors.
Test the internal 5V reference voltage circuit to the armrest controls to ensure it is not shorted to 0V or 12V.
Inspect the wiring harness between the multi-function joystick and the ACML for open circuits, chafing, or shorts to ground/power.
Monitor the live voltage data of the proportional rocker switch while actuating it to see if the signal drops out or spikes out of the normal operational range.
Repair steps
Verify fault code status
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify if the fault code is active or stored.
Clear error codes
Clear the error codes. If the code immediately returns, the fault is a hard failure in the switch or wiring.
Test joystick pins
Disconnect the multi-function joystick harness connector and test the pins for the proportional rocker switch with a multimeter.
Isolate fault
If the wiring harness tests good (no shorts to ground or power, and continuity is present to the ACML), the fault lies within the joystick assembly itself.
Replace joystick assembly
Replace the faulty armrest dispenser controls / multi-function joystick assembly.
Perform calibrations
Reconnect the EST and perform any necessary calibrations for the new joystick/EHR controls.
Parts you might need
(2)Multi-Function Joystick Assembly / Armrest Dispenser Control Valve unit
Verify the exact part number with a Case IH dealer using the machine's specific PIN/Serial Number, as joystick configurations vary heavily by optional equipment.
Armrest Control Module (ACML)
If the module itself has an internal short.
