Case IH 18324 (416.02, 4164.03, 4164.04, 520622.07) - ACML – ACML: Multi-Function Handle (MFH) CVT Range Down (Decrease) Switch Circuit Error
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or implausible signal—preventing the switch from properly communicating the operator's command to decrease the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) speed/range.
Applies to these machines

Check the cause
Access the H9 Voltmeter menu through the tractor's diagnostic display to verify the operation of the switches, potentiometers, voltage supplies, and solenoid current circuits
Perform a wiggle test on the wiring harness between the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) and the ACML while monitoring the H9 Voltmeter screen to identify loose connections or chafed wires
Check the specific circuit for the MFH CVT range decrease switch (identified as switch d177) for continuity and ensure there are no shorts to ground or power
Repair steps
Prepare machine for service
Turn off the tractor, relieve all hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery to prevent static electricity sparks or short circuits.
Access MFH and ACML
Remove the armrest control cover panels to access the base of the Multi-Function Handle and the ACML (GARU Armrest Control Unit).
Disconnect harness
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the base of the MFH.
Inspect and repair wiring
Inspect the connector pins on both the harness and the ACML for corrosion or pushed-out pins. If the harness is damaged, repair the wiring.
Remove faulty MFH
If the wiring is intact and the switch is confirmed faulty via the H9 Voltmeter test, remove the mounting hardware securing the MFH to the armrest.
Install replacement MFH
Install the replacement Multi-Function Handle assembly and reconnect the electrical harness.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reassemble the armrest panels, reconnect the battery, and clear the fault codes.
