18325 (4164.02, 4164.03, 4164.04, 520623.07) - ACML

Case IH 18325 (4164.02, 4164.03, 4164.04, 520623.07) - ACML – ACML: MFH CVT Range "Plus" Switch Error State

Issue description

The control module is receiving an implausible signal, an open circuit, or a short (to ground or power) from the MFH CVT Range "Plus" Switch.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum CVT Series (235, 260, 290, 315, 340, 370, 380)
  • Case IH Steiger CVT Series
  • Case IH Puma CVX / CVT Series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225)
  • Case IH Maxxum CVT Series (110, 120, 130)

Check the cause

  1. Use the Case IH EST software or the tractor's onboard diagnostic display ('H9 - VOLTMETER' menu) to verify the operation and voltage supply of the MFH switches. Monitor the 'MFH - CVT range increase switch' state while pressing the button to see if the module registers the input.

  2. Check the Range Plus button on the Multi-Function Handle for physical damage, sticking, or debris.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Multi-Function Handle to the Armrest Control Module. Look for chafed wires, loose connector pins, or corrosion that could cause an open circuit or short.

Repair steps

  1. Park and disconnect battery

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Remove trim panels

Remove the necessary trim panels on the Multi-Control Armrest to access the base of the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) and the Armrest Control Module (ACML) wiring.

  3. Disconnect MFH

Disconnect the electrical connector for the MFH.

  4. Inspect and repair wiring

Inspect the connector pins for damage. If the wiring harness is damaged between the joystick and the module, repair the affected wires.

  5. Replace MFH

If the wiring is intact but the switch fails the diagnostic voltage/continuity test, the switch itself has failed. Because the buttons are integrated into the handle assembly, the entire Multi-Function Handle (MFH) must be replaced.

  6. Install new MFH

Install the new MFH assembly and route the wiring harness securely.

  7. Clear fault codes

Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and use the EST or diagnostic menu to clear the stored fault codes.

  8. Test switch

Test the CVT Range Plus switch to ensure the transmission responds correctly and the code does not return.
