18329 (4170.02, 4170.03, 4170.04, 518571.07) - ACML

Case IH 18329 (4170.02, 4170.03, 4170.04, 518571.07) - ACML – ACML: MFH EHR2 Retract Switch Error State

Issue description

The system has detected an implausible signal, voltage out of range (too high/too low), or a short/open circuit specifically on the switch used to retract the #2 rear remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum Series
  • Puma Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the EHR2 rocker switch on the Multi-Function Handle for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to the neutral position.

  2. Enter the tractor's H-menu and select the H9 (Voltmeter diagnostic) screen. Monitor the live voltage values for the MFH EHR2 Retract Switch while pressing and releasing it to see if the signal drops out or spikes.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the MFH to the Armrest Control Module (ACML) for pinched wires, chafing, or loose connector pins.

  4. Look for broader MFH voltage codes (e.g., 18008, 18009) or encoder position errors (18013) which would indicate a failure of the entire joystick rather than just the single switch.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn the ignition key switch OFF and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

Remove the retaining screws and trim panels on the right-hand armrest console to expose the underside of the Multi-Function Handle and the ACML.

  3. Test the Switch/Joystick

Disconnect the MFH electrical connector. Test the continuity of the EHR2 retract switch circuit. If the switch is integrated into the joystick circuit board and fails the continuity test, the MFH or the specific switch panel must be replaced.

  4. Replace the Component

Install the new MFH joystick or EHR rocker switch panel. Reconnect the wiring harness securely.

  5. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest trim panels and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes & Recalibrate

Turn the ignition ON. Enter the H8 menu to clear stored fault codes. If the EHR valves lost communication, enter the HJ menu to clear and reassign the EHR valve numbers. The display will flash "Ehr1", then "Ehr2", etc. Reconnect each valve in order until the audible beep confirms recognition.
