18331 (4166.02, 4166.03, 4166.04, 518662.07) - ACML

Case IH 18331 (4166.02, 4166.03, 4166.04, 518662.07) - ACML – ACML: MFH Rear Hitch Fast Raise Switch Error State

Issue description

The system has detected an electrical anomaly in the MFH (Multi Function Handle) Rear Hitch Fast Raise Switch (S116) circuit, indicating the controller is seeing a voltage that is too high, too low, or an open/short circuit preventing proper operation.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma Series (125, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225, 240 CVX)
  • Magnum Series (235, 260, 290, 340)
  • Maxxum Series
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Identify the Rear Hitch Fast Raise Switch (S116) circuit

  2. Inspect connector X846 (connecting the MFH to the Armrest Control Unit) for loose pins, pushed-out terminals, moisture, or corrosion

  3. Inspect the wiring harness (electrical schematic frame 25 / 55.100) between the MFH and the Armrest Control Unit for chafing or pinches

  4. Test the S116 circuit for a short to ground, short to power, or an open circuit

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a flat surface, turn off the engine, and ensure all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the circuits before beginning work.

  2. Access the Armrest

Disassemble the armrest console to access the bottom of the Multi Function Handle and the Armrest Control Unit (GARU).

  3. Disconnect Electrical Connections

Carefully disconnect connector X846 and any associated harness plugs (such as X847 or X776) leading to the joystick.

  4. Remove the MFH

If the S116 switch itself has failed internally, the entire Multi Function Handle (Joystick) assembly generally must be replaced, as the switches are integrated into the handle. Unbolt the handle assembly from the armrest mount.

  5. Install the New Handle

Mount the replacement MFH and route the wiring harness carefully to avoid pinch points.

  6. Reconnect and Reassemble

Reconnect X846 and reassemble the armrest console.

  7. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Turn the key on, clear the inactive 18331 fault code from the ACML, and test the rear hitch fast raise function to ensure the error does not return.
