Case IH 18351 (2685.02, 2685.03, 2685.04, 2685.07) - ACML – ACML: Joystick Button 1 Error

Indicates an error state with 'Joystick Button 1' on the machine's Multi-Function Handle (MFH). The FMI extensions specify erratic data, voltage above/below normal, or a mechanical system not responding properly (e.g., physically stuck).

   Physical Inspection: Check Joystick Button 1 on the Multi-Function Handle. Ensure it is not physically stuck, damaged, or jammed by dirt/debris.

   Code Clearing: Clear the fault codes using the AFS Pro display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST). Actuate the button to see if the code returns immediately, confirming a hard fault.

   Harness & Connector Check: Disconnect the Multi-Function Handle connector inside the armrest. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back terminals.

   Continuity Testing: Perform a continuity test on the wiring harness between the MFH and the Armrest Control Module (ACML) to rule out open circuits or shorts to ground/power.

   Switch Testing: Use a multimeter to test the internal switch state of Button 1 on the handle to ensure it properly opens and closes when pressed and released.

   Power down machine

   Power down the machine and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Remove cover panels

   Remove the armrest cover panels to access the base of the Multi-Function Handle and the ACML wiring harness.

   Disconnect connector

   If diagnostics prove the button switch itself has failed internally (and it cannot be serviced as an individual microswitch), disconnect the main electrical connector from the Multi-Function Handle.

   Remove faulty handle

   Unbolt and remove the faulty Multi-Function Handle / Joystick assembly from the armrest console.

   Install new handle

   Install the new or remanufactured Multi-Function Handle and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated and the locking tab is engaged.

   Reinstall cover panels

   Reinstall the armrest cover panels.

   Clear fault codes

   Reconnect the battery, power on the machine, and use the display or EST to clear the stored fault codes.

   Test operation

   Test the operation of Joystick Button 1 to verify the repair. (Note: Depending on the machine series, a quick calibration of the new handle via the AFS Pro 700/1200 display may be required).
