Case IH 18361 – ACML: Joystick Button 8 ACML - error state

The control module is receiving an implausible signal from Button 8 on the multifunction joystick, such as a continuous short to ground, a short to power, an open circuit, or a stuck-pressed condition.

   Check Button 8 on the joystick for physical damage, sticking, or debris lodged around the switch mechanism.

   Turn the key off, wait for the modules to power down completely, and restart the tractor to see if the error state clears (checking for a transient software glitch).

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the joystick to the ACML. Look for pinched wires inside the armrest console or loose pins at the connector block.

   Using a multimeter, test the specific pins for Button 8 at the joystick connector. Verify if the switch is stuck closed (continuous continuity without being pressed) or open (no continuity when pressed).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent short circuits while working on the armrest.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Remove the Torx or Phillips screws securing the upper plastic housing of the Multicontroller armrest.

   Access the Joystick

   Carefully lift the cover to expose the joystick base and the wiring harness leading to the ACML.

   Disconnect the Joystick

   Unplug the main electrical connector for the joystick assembly.

   Replace the Component

   Depending on the specific joystick revision, individual buttons may not be serviceable. If Button 8 is soldered to an internal circuit board, the entire joystick handle or assembly must be replaced.

   Reassembly

   Plug in the new joystick, route the wiring carefully to avoid pinching, and reinstall the armrest cover.

   Calibration

   Power on the tractor. Some replacement joysticks require a calibration routine via the Pro 700/1200 display or the EST (Electronic Service Tool) to sync with the ACML.
