Case IH 18401 – Armrest Controller / ICP (Intuitive Control Panel): EHR 2 Program / Motor Mode Switch: "EHR_Mode_2Sw" CAN signal from ICP - error state.

The main vehicle controller is receiving an invalid, missing, or corrupted CAN (Controller Area Network) message from the ICP regarding the state of the EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) #2 Program/Motor Mode Switch. This indicates that either the switch itself has failed (sending an implausible signal), the wiring/connector to the switch is compromised, or there is a CAN communication error between the ICP and the main controller.

   Enter the H5 Diagnostic Menu (Switch operation test) using the instrument cluster buttons.

   Operate the EHR 2 Program / Motor Mode Switch and verify the signal (identifier code 'd96' should display and an audible tone should be heard).

   If the code is not displayed and tone is not heard, perform a wiggle test on the wiring harness under the armrest flap to locate a loose connection or broken wire.

   If multiple ICP switches fail the test, check the CAN bus wiring (CAN High / CAN Low) between the ICP and the Armrest Controller for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to protect the electronic systems.

   Access the ICP

   Open the flap on the Multicontroller armrest to access the hydraulic flowrate pots, timers, and EHR mode switches. Carefully remove the retaining screws for the ICP / switch panel bezel.

   Inspect Connections

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the EHR 2 switch and the main ICP connector. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back terminals, or moisture. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

   Replace the Switch/Panel

   If the H5 diagnostic test proved the switch is internally shorted or open, replace the EHR 2 toggle/rocker switch. (Note: On some newer ICP revisions, the switches are integrated directly into the ICP circuit board. If the switch cannot be separated, the entire ICP module must be replaced).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the wiring harnesses, seat the panel back into the armrest, and secure the screws.

   Clear Codes & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and use the H-menu (or the Electronic Service Tool - EST) to clear the stored 18401 fault code. If the EHR valve itself was disturbed, perform the EHR calibration via the H-menu (navigating to the EHR Rear/Front calibration screen and following the raise/lower/float prompts).
