Case IH 18404 – Universal Controller (H6) / Central Control Unit (CCU / R1): Front Hitch Inching Lower Switch CAN signal error from ICP

The main controller is detecting a missing, corrupted, or implausible CAN signal from the Integrated Control Panel (ICP) regarding the Front Hitch Inching Lower Switch's position.

   Connect special tool 380000843 to the diagnostic connector and turn the key start switch ON.

   Access the H Menu on the dot matrix display by depressing the menu key.

   Navigate to the H6 (Universal Controller) menu to view vehicle information and sub-system screens.

   Monitor diagnostic channel d191 (via CAN Front hitch inching lower switch) to see if the controller registers the switch being pressed or if the signal is completely dead.

   Inspect the physical front hitch inching switch for physical damage, water ingress, or a stuck button.

   Check the wiring harness and connectors between the front hitch switch, the chassis harness, and the ICP in the armrest.

   Resolve the Hardware Issue

   Replace the physical front hitch inching switch if it has failed internally, or repair any broken CAN bus wires leading to the ICP. If the switch and wiring are intact, the ICP itself may require replacement.

   Clear the Fault Codes

   Turn the ignition key switch ON. Access the H Menu.

   Erase Stored Error Codes

   Navigate to the HC menu to erase all stored error codes without erasing calibration information. Warning: Do not use the H8 menu unless you intend to clear all calibration values and reset all EEPROM values back to default.

   Test Operation

   Cycle the key power and test the front hitch inching lower switch to ensure the fault code does not return and the hitch operates correctly.
