Case IH 18410 – Main vehicle controller (Chassis/Transmission ECU): Front Suspension Lock Switch: FSUS_LckSw CAN signal from ICP - error state

Issue description

The main controller is detecting an error state in the CAN signal coming from the ICP. The ECU is either not receiving the switch's position data over the CAN bus, or the data being broadcast by the ICP is invalid, missing, or corrupted.

Check the cause

  1. Enter the tractor's diagnostic mode and navigate to the H5 - Switch Operation Test menu.

  2. Toggle the Front Suspension Lock Switch and check if the upper section of the display shows the switch identifier code 'd89' and emits an audible tone.

  3. If the 'd89' code is not displayed, perform a 'wiggle test' on the wiring harness connected to the ICP and the CAN bus lines while watching the display to locate any loose connections.

  4. Check the physical input at connector X100 (CN1B) pin 29, which is associated with the front suspension lock switch circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Verify the Fault

    Use the H5 diagnostic menu to confirm the switch is not being recognized by the system.

  2. Inspect the ICP

    Check the physical condition of the Front Suspension Lock Switch on the Instrument Cluster Panel/armrest. Ensure it is not physically broken or stuck.

  3. Test CAN Communication

    Check the CAN bus wiring (CAN High and CAN Low) between the ICP and the main vehicle controller. Look for rubbed through wires, corrosion at the connectors, or bent pins.

  4. Test CAN Resistance

    With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN bus to ensure it reads approximately 60 ohms (verifying the terminating resistors and bus integrity).

  5. Replace Components

    If the wiring is intact and the CAN bus is healthy, but the switch still fails the H5 test, the switch itself has failed. If the switch is hard-soldered or integrated into the ICP membrane, the ICP sub-module will need to be replaced.

  6. Clear and Retest

    After repairing the wiring or replacing the switch/ICP, clear the fault codes and test the front suspension lock function to ensure the suspension locks and unlocks properly.
