18415

Case IH 18415 – Universal Controller (module H6) / Instrument Control Panel (ICP): RearHitchLowSw (Rear Hitch Inching Lower Switch) CAN signal error

Issue description

The system detects an invalid, missing, or erratic signal over the Controller Area Network (CAN) from the Instrument Control Panel (ICP) regarding the remote switch located on the rear fender, which is used to lower the three-point hitch from outside the cab.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma series (130, 140, 145, 160, 165, 180, 185 CVT, 195, 210, 220 CVT, 225)
  • Case IH Magnum series (250-380, MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
  • Case IH Maxxum series (110-140)
  • Case IH Farmall U series

Check the cause

  1. Observe the EDC status lamp on the Instrument Control Panel (ICP); it will flash to indicate an active EDC fault.

  2. Install the diagnostic connector tool (OEM part number 380000843) into the diagnostic socket and turn the key switch ON to access the 'HH MENU'.

  3. Navigate to the 'H9' menu, which tests switches, sensors, and voltage supplies.

  4. Monitor diagnostic channel 'd188 via CAN' to verify if the controller is receiving the rear hitch inching lower switch signal.

  5. Inspect the physical switch on the rear fender and its wiring harness connections (connector X407 for the left-hand switch or X661 for the right-hand switch) for damage, water ingress, or corrosion.

Repair steps

  1. Turn the ignition key switch OFF.

  2. Inspect and repair any damaged wiring or connectors between the rear fender switch and the ICP.

  3. Remove the defective remote rear hitch switch from the rear fender housing.

Perform this step if the switch itself is faulty.

  4. Install the replacement switch and reconnect the wiring harness.

  5. Turn the ignition key switch ON.

  6. Clear the stored fault codes.

Use the 'HC' menu to erase stored error codes without erasing calibration information. (Note: Using the 'H8' menu will clear all calibration values and stored fault codes from the EEPROM, which would require a full recalibration).

  7. Fully raise and then lower the hitch using the position control lever on the armrest.

This verifies operation and stores the calibrated top position value.
