Case IH 18418 – Armrest: Rear Hitch Slip Switch: CAN signal from ICP - error state
Issue description
The control module is either losing communication with the Instrument Cluster Panel (ICP) or the data being transmitted over the CAN bus regarding the slip switch position is invalid or out of range.

Check the cause
Verify the wiring harness and CAN data bus connections between the Armrest control module and the Instrument Cluster Panel (ICP)
Test the 5-volt reference circuit to the rear hitch slip control switch/potentiometer to ensure it is not above the upper voltage limit or below the lower voltage limit
Inspect the physical rear hitch slip control potentiometer on the armrest for open circuits, short circuits, or misadjustment
Repair steps
Disconnect battery power
Disconnect battery power before servicing the Armrest or ICP modules.
Remove console cover
Remove the Armrest console cover to access the rear hitch slip control potentiometer and its wiring connector.
Inspect connector
Inspect the connector for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture. Clean and reseat if necessary.
Trace CAN signal wires
Trace the CAN signal wires from the Armrest module to the ICP (Instrument Cluster Panel). Repair any chafed or broken wires in the harness.
Replace potentiometer
If the wiring and 5-volt reference are intact but the CAN signal error persists, replace the Rear Hitch Slip Control Potentiometer.
Reassemble and clear codes
Reassemble the console, reconnect battery power, and clear the fault codes using the multi-function display or a diagnostic tool.
