19.00 - ACML

Case IH 19.00 - ACML – Armrest Control Module (ACML / ACM): Init of SelfTest module failed

Issue description

Internal hardware or software failure within the module itself. When the tractor is keyed on, the ACML runs a boot-up initialization and self-test. If it fails this sequence, it cannot safely process operator commands and will log this fault, often disabling armrest functions to prevent unintended machine movement.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Magnum series (e.g., 235–340)
  • Case IH Steiger series
  • Case IH Puma series
  • Case IH Maxxum series (e.g., Multicontroller ActiveDrive 8)

Check the cause

  1. Check for secondary ACM error codes on the display. Clear the error codes, cycle the key, and test the system to see if the initialization failure is a hard (permanent) fault or an intermittent voltage glitch.

  2. Inspect all wiring harness connectors at the ACML. Ensure they are fully seated, undamaged, and that no pins are pushed back or corroded.

  3. Verify power and ground to the ACML. Ensure the module is receiving full battery voltage (typically 12V+) during the key-on sequence. A weak battery, failing cab relay, or poor ground can cause the self-test to fail.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Module

Remove the plastic trim and covers on the operator seat's armrest assembly to expose the ACML.

  3. Disconnect

Carefully unplug the multi-pin wiring harnesses from the module.

  4. Remove

Unbolt the retaining screws (often M3 metric screws) holding the ACML to the armrest frame and remove the faulty unit.

  5. Install

Mount the replacement ACML and reconnect the wiring harnesses.

  6. Reassemble and Power Up

Reinstall the armrest trim and reconnect the battery.

  7. Calibration/Programming

A new ACML will likely require a dealer to connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to flash the correct software, sync the module to the tractor's CAN bus, and calibrate the armrest potentiometers (EHR levers, joystick, etc.).

Parts you might need

(1)
  • ECU - Full GARU ACML

    51457799

Supersedes older part numbers such as 92289172. Fits various Case IH Maxxum, Puma, and Optum models. Exact fitment should be verified with a dealer using the tractor's specific PIN/Serial Number.
