Case IH 19 – Central Controller (XCM): Pin Reference Voltage Less Than 8 Volts (Short Or Open Circuit)

Issue description

The 8-volt reference signal supplied to the draft load sensing pins drops below the acceptable threshold. This is typically caused by a short to ground, an open circuit in the wiring harness, a failed load sensing pin, or a failure within the controller itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the central controller (XCM) connectors (C534 and C533) and both load sensing pin connectors (C048 and C047) for damaged pins, corrosion, or a loose fit.

  2. Test the wiring harness for an open circuit or a short to ground between the load sensing pins and the XCM.

  3. Verify that the XCM is outputting the required 8-volt reference signal to the pins.

  4. Isolate the component failure: if the harness and voltage output are good, the load sensing pin has failed internally. If the harness is good but there is no 8V reference, the XCM may be faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Address Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short or open circuit in the harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

  2. Bypass the Pins (Recommended)

    Locate the two draft load sensing pins on the lower hitch assembly. Unplug the factory wiring harness from both pins. Plug the two electronic load sensing elimination modules directly into the harness connectors. Secure the modules and wiring safely out of the way using tie wraps.

  3. Replace the Pins (Alternative)

    Remove the heavy mechanical linkage supporting the lower draft arms, extract the faulty load sensing pin, install the new OEM pin, and reconnect the harness.

  4. Clear Codes

    Turn the tractor on and use the diagnostic menu to clear the stored error code 19 from the XCM.

  5. Recalibrate

    Perform a hydraulic lift auto-calibration. The system will often throw Code 24 / 1024, which simply means the hydraulic lift calibration must be performed after hitch components or XCM parameters are changed.
