Case IH 19 – Transmission Electronic Control Module (ECM): CREEPER_ENG_SW_LO_ERR 48 Fixed Mod
Issue description
The voltage from the Creeper (N) Switch (Creeper Lever) is too low (drops below 0.7 volts at ECM connector 2, pin 21), preventing the ECM from detecting the creeper lever's neutral position.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- JXC
- Farmall U
- Farmall 100N
- Farmall 120A
- TN60A
- TN70A
- TN75A
Check the cause
Back-probe ECM connector 2, pin 21, with the key on to verify if the voltage is indeed below the 0.7V threshold.
Check for an open circuit or a short to ground in the wiring harness between the creeper switch and ECM connector 2, pin 21.
Inspect the switch terminals for corrosion, open circuits, or a short to ground.
Verify that the 5V or 8V sensor supply circuits are functioning correctly and that related fuses (e.g., Fuse 20) are intact.
If the switch and wiring harness both test perfectly, the fault may lie in an internal ECM failure.
Repair steps
Safely Prep the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Creeper Switch
Depending on the model and cab configuration, locate the creeper switch (often found on the cab control console or directly on the transmission creeper linkage).
Disconnect and Isolate
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the creeper switch.
Test the Switch
Use a digital multimeter to test the switch for continuity across its operational positions. If the switch fails to close the circuit or shows excessive resistance, it is faulty and must be replaced.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the switch tests good, trace the wiring from the switch back to ECM connector 2. Repair any chafed, broken, or shorted wires.
Install New Part
If the switch is faulty, install the replacement creeper switch and securely reconnect the wiring harness.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes, and test the creeper gear engagement to ensure the ECM now properly detects the neutral position and the code does not return.
