Case IH 19013 – Engine ECU: NH3 sensor open or short in temperature cell circuit
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical fault—either a broken wire (open circuit) or a short circuit—specifically within the temperature measurement cell of the exhaust's Ammonia (NH3) sensor.
Applies to these machines
9 machines- Tier 4b
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
- 6150 Axial-Flow Combine
- 7250 Axial-Flow Combine
- 8250 Axial-Flow Combine
- Farmall 110U
- Maxxum 115
- Magnum series
- 580N Backhoe Loaders
Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic tool and verify that fault code 19013 is still present and in an active state.
Visually inspect the wiring harness and the 8-pin connector (sensor B-002) leading to the NH3 sensor for chafed wires, melted insulation from exhaust heat, or corrosion inside the connector pins.
Test the temperature cell circuit for continuity to the ECU. Check for an open circuit or a short to ground/power within the machine's wiring harness.
Repair steps
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the exhaust system to cool completely.
Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the NH3 sensor on the exhaust system.
Mounted downstream on the SCR catalyst unit.
Disconnect the 8-pin electrical connector from the sensor.
Carefully unscrew and remove the faulty NH3 sensor from the exhaust pipe.
Apply high-temperature anti-seize to the threads of the new sensor (if not already pre-applied from the factory) and install it into the exhaust pipe.
Reconnect the 8-pin electrical connector securely.
Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and use your diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 19013 fault code.
Run the engine to operating temperature to ensure the code does not return.
