Case IH 19026 (F-518694-11) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Exhaust flap sticking or internal failure

The exhaust flap (also known as the exhaust control valve or exhaust throttle valve) is physically binding, stuck, or has suffered an internal mechanical or electrical failure within its actuator.

   Verify the supply voltage to the exhaust flap actuator to rule out a wiring or fuse issue (related to code 19027).

   Check for CAN communication errors (related code 19035) to ensure the wiring harness is intact and communicating with the ECU.

   Cycle the machine's power to see if the flap is stuck during the initialization sweep (related code 19033).

   Disconnect the exhaust piping around the valve and visually inspect for heavy soot or carbon buildup that may be physically jamming the butterfly valve.

   Preparation

   Turn off the engine and allow the exhaust and SCR aftertreatment system to cool completely to avoid severe burns.

   Access the valve

   Locate the exhaust flap valve assembly, which is typically mounted inline on the exhaust piping upstream of the SCR/DPF catalyst canister.

   Disconnect electricals

   Unplug the wiring harness connector from the exhaust flap actuator motor. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion or heat damage.

   Remove the valve

   Loosen and remove the exhaust clamps or retaining bolts securing the exhaust flap valve to the exhaust pipe flanges. Carefully remove the valve assembly.

   Inspect and clean

   If the valve is heavily carbon-fouled but the actuator motor is still functional, attempt to clean the flap with an EGR/exhaust carbon solvent to free the mechanism.

   Replace the component

   If the flap is internally failed or the actuator is burnt out, install a new exhaust flap valve or actuator assembly.

   Reassembly

   Secure the new valve with the exhaust clamps/bolts, ensuring the gaskets or mating surfaces are properly aligned to prevent exhaust leaks. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes. Perform an engine power-up test to allow the ECU to calibrate the new actuator's end-stops and verify smooth operation.
