Case IH 19034 (DTC 879C) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Exhaust flap actuator is over temperature.

The exhaust flap actuator (also known as the exhaust brake valve) is getting too hot. This code typically triggers when there is a lack of coolant flow to the actuator, excessive exhaust gas temperatures, or an internal electrical short causing the actuator's internal circuit board/power stage to overheat.

   Inspect the coolant supply and return lines going to the exhaust flap actuator for pinched hoses, blockages, or leaks. Verify that the engine coolant level is full and the main engine coolant temperature is within normal operating range.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the actuator for melted pins, corrosion, or shorts to ground/battery. High resistance or a short circuit can cause the ECU to register an over-temperature error.

   Check for related codes such as 19035 (CAN timeout error) or 19027 (supply voltage out of range). If these are present, the actuator's internal electronics have likely failed.

   If you have access to the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or FPT Engine Troubleshooting software, run the FLAP VALVE TEST to command the actuator and verify its mechanical and electrical response.

   Cool Down

   Allow the engine and exhaust system to cool completely to avoid severe burns.

   Isolate Coolant

   Clamp off the coolant supply and return lines connected to the exhaust flap actuator to minimize coolant loss.

   Disconnect

   Remove the coolant lines from the actuator and unplug the electrical harness connector.

   Remove Actuator

   Unbolt the exhaust flap actuator assembly from the exhaust pipe/manifold section.

   Install New Part

   Mount the replacement actuator to the exhaust system. Reconnect the coolant lines and plug in the electrical connector.

   Refill and Bleed

   Unclamp the coolant lines. Top off the engine coolant reservoir and bleed the cooling system of any air pockets to ensure the new actuator receives proper cooling.

   Clear Codes & Reset

   Connect the diagnostic tool, clear the fault codes, and perform an INDUCEMENT COUNTER RESET if the machine was forced into a derate/power loss mode. Run the 'FLAP VALVE TEST' to confirm the new part is functioning.
