Case IH 19035 (F-518694-09) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): CAN timeout error from exhaust flap actuator

The control module has lost Controller Area Network (CAN) communication with the actuator's internal controller, meaning the module is no longer receiving expected data messages from the flap.

   Check the physical presence and correct connection of the Exhaust Flap Actuator to the CAN network

2. 2

   Inspect the wiring harness for disconnected, broken, or chafed cables that could interrupt the CAN signal

   Check the voltage supply to the exhaust flap actuator for undervoltage conditions or a short circuit in its voltage supply lines

   Ensure the exhaust flap is not physically stuck due to increased resistance, friction, or overheating

   Preparation

   Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and allow the exhaust system to cool completely.

   Drain Coolant

   On specific engines (like the NEF 4-cylinder), drain the engine coolant below the level of the turbocharger/exhaust plumbing to prevent spills.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the exhaust flap actuator. Disconnect the coolant inlet and outlet lines from the actuator housing.

   Removal

   Unbolt the exhaust brake valve/actuator assembly from the exhaust plumbing (usually located between the turbo outlet and the DOC/SCR inlet).

   Installation

   Install the new exhaust flap actuator with new exhaust gaskets. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the coolant lines and plug in the CAN/power electrical harness.

   Refill and Clear

   Refill the engine coolant. Reconnect the battery, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 19035 fault code, and run the engine to verify that the SCR system reaches operating temperature without triggering a timeout error.
