19040 (DTC 352C) - ECU

Case IH 19040 (DTC 352C) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Upstream oxidation catalyst temperature sensor comparison to a calculated temperature value failure

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) continuously monitors the temperature of the exhaust gases entering the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC). If the actual temperature value reported by the upstream DOC temperature sensor deviates significantly from the ECU's calculated value, this plausibility fault is triggered.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • 7240
  • 8240
  • 9240
  • Puma Series
  • Puma 240
  • Farmall Series
  • 90C
  • 100C
  • 110C
  • 120C Tier 4B

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the fault is currently active using a diagnostic tool (e.g., Case IH EST or PT-Box). If inactive, the issue may be intermittent.

  2. Check for and diagnose related electrical codes first, specifically 19066 (DTC 1899) for high voltage.

  3. Inspect the sensor wiring harness and connector (Pin 1 is 5-volt supply/signal, Pin 2 is common ground to the ECU) for rubs or short circuits.

  4. Physically inspect the sensor to ensure it is installed tight against the exhaust pipe and has not vibrated loose, which would cause it to read cooler ambient air.

Repair steps

  1. Cool Down

Turn off the machine and allow the exhaust and aftertreatment system to cool completely to avoid severe burns.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the upstream DOC temperature sensor. It is mounted on the exhaust pipe just before the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) chamber.

  3. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical connector. Carefully unscrew the temperature sensor from the exhaust bung.

  4. Install the New Sensor

Thread the new OEM temperature sensor into the exhaust bung and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specification.

  5. Reconnect Wiring

Plug the sensor's electrical connector back into the engine wiring harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  6. Reset the ECU Inducement

Because this fault causes an emissions inducement, simply clearing the code is not enough. You must use the diagnostic tool to perform an "Engine Restart Counter Reset" or "Unlock Inducement" configuration before the machine will return to normal operation and full power.
