Case IH 19041 (DTC 362C) - ECU – Engine ECU: Upstream SCR temperature sensor comparison to a calculated temperature value failure

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) calculates an expected temperature for the exhaust gas entering the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) chamber based on engine operating conditions. The Upstream SCR temperature sensor measures the actual temperature. If the measured temperature deviates significantly from the ECU's calculated value, this fault is triggered, indicating a potential issue with the sensor's reading, its mounting, or the exhaust system.

   Verify Fault Status: Use the diagnostic tool to check if the fault is currently active or inactive. If inactive, it may be an intermittent issue.

   Inspect Sensor Mounting: Ensure the upstream SCR temperature sensor is installed correctly and securely mounted in the exhaust stream.

   Wiring and Circuit Check: The upstream SCR temperature sensor is a closed-tip sensor with a 2-pin connector. Pin 1: 5-volt supply from the ECU. Pin 2: Common ground to the ECU. Check the wiring harness for shorts, chafing, or open circuits.

   Physical Inspection: Check the sensor tip for excessive soot buildup or physical damage.

   Exhaust System Check: Inspect the exhaust piping upstream of the SCR chamber for leaks, which could cause the actual temperature to drop below the ECU's calculated value.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and allow the exhaust system to cool completely to avoid burns.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector from the upstream SCR temperature sensor.

   Remove

   Carefully unscrew the sensor from the catalytic chamber/exhaust pipe.

   Clean/Replace

   If the sensor is heavily sooted but otherwise tests fine, clean it. If it failed the electrical checks, is physically damaged, or the fault remains active after cleaning, replace the sensor.

   Install

   Thread the new sensor into the exhaust pipe and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug the 2-pin connector back into the machine's wiring harness.

   Clear and Verify

   Connect a diagnostic tool, clear the active 19041 (362C) fault code, and run the engine (or perform a forced aftertreatment regeneration) to verify the sensor is reading correctly and the code does not return.
