19060 (DTC 9E6E) - ECU

Case IH 19060 (DTC 9E6E) - ECU – Electronic Engine Control Unit (ECU): CAN timeout error from upstream NOx sensor

Issue description

The upstream Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) sensor, which is located before the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst to measure raw engine-out NOx values, has stopped communicating or sending messages on the CAN bus network.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the sensor has not been physically removed or unplugged (related code 19061 indicates possible removal).

  2. Inspect the electrical connections and wiring harness leading to the upstream NOx sensor for damage, corrosion, or loose pins that could interrupt CAN bus communication.

  3. Ensure the sensor is receiving proper 12V supply voltage (related code 19063 indicates supply voltage out of range).

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Find the upstream NOx sensor, which is mounted in the exhaust pipe before the SCR catalyst.

  2. Disconnect the Battery/Power

Ensure the machine is turned off to prevent electrical shorts.

  3. Disconnect the Harness

Unplug the electrical connector linking the NOx sensor to the vehicle's wiring harness.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Using a specialized NOx/O2 sensor socket (typically 7/8"), carefully unscrew the faulty sensor from the exhaust pipe.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Inspect the exhaust mounting port, clean the threads if necessary, and thread the new upstream NOx sensor into place, tightening it securely.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the new sensor's electrical connector back into the wiring harness.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 19060 (9E6E) fault code from the ECU and run the machine to verify the check engine light remains off.
