Case IH 1907-14 - UCM – UCM: At least one pilot head not assigned to location
Issue description
The control module detects a pilot head on the CAN bus that has not been programmed with its physical location/number. This typically happens when a new pilot head is installed, or if a faulty pilot head corrupts the CAN bus communication, causing it to lose its memory or assignment.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum Series (200, 210, 225, 280, 290)
- Puma Series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
- Steiger Series (580)
- Maxxum Series (125, 140)
Check the cause
CAN Bus Isolation Test: If multiple remotes are offline, the CAN bus communication might be killed by a single shorted pilot head. Unplug the pilot heads one by one; if the rest of the remotes come back online, the unplugged pilot head is the faulty unit.
Verify Recent Repairs: Check if a pilot head was recently replaced. If a new pilot head was installed but not assigned an address via the tractor's diagnostic menu, this code will actively log.
Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the pilot heads on top of the remote valves for corrosion, moisture, or damage that could interrupt CAN communication.
Repair steps
Remove the Old Pilot Head
Remove the end cover located at the opposite end of the remote valve section from the pilot head assembly. Save the two O-rings found under the cover for reuse. Remove the faulty pilot head assembly.
Install the New Pilot Head
Lubricate the components with hydraulic oil, install the new pilot head, and reinstall the two O-rings. Tighten the valve spool cover screws to 27-31 Nm (19-22 lb-ft).
Renumber/Reassign the Valves (HJ Procedure)
You must reassign the valve addresses so the UCM knows which lever controls the new valve. Enter the tractor's diagnostic menu (often the "HK" menu) and perform the "HJ procedure" to renumber the valves.
Calibrate the Valve
Navigate to Channel 1 ("Valve Calibration") in the HK menu. This on-board calibration tunes the valve for proper function and requires the use of special tools: a pressure transducer (Tool # 380001903) and a jumper harness (Tool # 84148258).
