Case IH 19088 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit / DeNOx Control Unit) / ECM (Engine Control Module): Error supply module heater plausibility
Issue description
This code indicates a plausibility failure or a faulty PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal detected in the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) / AdBlue Supply Module Heater circuit. The supply module heater is responsible for thawing DEF in cold conditions to prevent the system from freezing. When this code triggers, the control module is receiving an unexpected temperature reading or an erratic electrical signal that does not match the expected operational parameters of the heater.

Check the cause
Check the DEF tank and supply module for physical damage or signs of frozen/crystallized DEF.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the DCU/ECM and the DEF Supply Module for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.
Test the DEF supply module heater control circuit for a short circuit to ground, short to battery, or an open load.
Connect a diagnostic scan tool to monitor the DEF supply module heater temperature sensor for dynamic and cold start plausibility. Command the heater ON via the service tool to verify if voltage is reaching the module.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the ignition switch and wait for the DEF system to complete its purge cycle (listen for the pump to stop running). Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the exterior of the DEF Supply Module and surrounding bracket to prevent dirt or crystallized DEF from contaminating the open lines.
Disconnect Electricals
Unplug the main electrical harness connectors from the DEF Supply Module.
Disconnect Fluid Lines
Disconnect the DEF supply and return lines. Caution: Be prepared to catch spilled DEF. Cap the lines immediately to prevent crystallization and contamination.
Remove the Module
Remove the mounting bolts securing the DEF Supply Module to its bracket and remove the faulty unit.
Install the New Module
Mount the replacement DEF Supply Module and tighten the bolts to OEM torque specifications.
Reconnect
Remove the caps and reconnect the DEF fluid lines (ensure they click securely into place). Reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes & Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition ON without starting the engine. Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear fault code 19088. Start the engine and use the scan tool to run a DEF system leak test and verify heater operation.
