Case IH 19113 (DTC 9F5A) - ECU – DCU (Dosing Control Unit) or Engine ECU (ECM): DEF/AdBlue reverting valve ECU driver circuit over temperature failure

Issue description

The reverting valve manages the flow of engine coolant to the DEF supply module to thaw frozen urea and keep it warm, and it also manages the return flow (purging) of DEF back to the tank when the engine is shut down. This fault indicates that the internal driver circuit within the control module that provides power/ground to this valve has exceeded its safe operating temperature limit, usually due to excessive current draw from a short circuit or a failing solenoid.

Check the cause

  1. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to confirm if the fault is currently active and check for accompanying circuit codes (e.g., 19082, 19083, or 19084) that indicate the root cause.

  2. Trace the wiring from the DEF supply module/reverting valve back to the ECU. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could be causing a short to ground.

  3. Disconnect the reverting valve connector and measure the resistance across the solenoid pins with a multimeter. If resistance is too low, the solenoid is internally shorted.

  4. Ensure the reverting valve is not mechanically stuck, which can cause the electrical coil to overwork.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent any further electrical damage to the ECU.

  2. Locate the Component

    Locate the DEF supply module (doser pump assembly), which is typically mounted near the DEF tank. The reverting valve is integrated into or mounted directly on this module.

  3. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section using OEM-approved weather-sealed splices, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Valve/Module Replacement

    If the reverting valve solenoid tested bad (internal short), the valve must be replaced. On many FPT engine applications, the reverting valve is serviced as a complete assembly with the DEF Supply Module / Doser Pump. Remove the DEF lines and coolant lines (be prepared to catch spilled fluids), unbolt the module, and install the new unit.

  5. Reassemble and Prime

    Reconnect all electrical connectors and fluid lines. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

    Connect the EST laptop, clear the inactive fault codes, and run a DEF system prime/purge test to verify that the reverting valve operates normally and the ECU driver temperature remains within safe limits.
