Case IH 19113 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine Control Unit (ECU): DEF/AdBlue reverting valve ECU/ECM driver circuit over temperature failure.

Issue description

The internal driver circuit inside the control module that supplies power to the reverting valve has overheated, usually due to an electrical short, excessive current draw from a failing valve, or a wiring harness issue.

Check the cause

  1. Verify active faults using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check for related voltage faults such as 19082 (short to battery), 19083 (short to ground), or 19084 (open circuit).

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the ECM and the DEF Supply Module for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short circuit.

  3. Disconnect the DEF Supply Module and ECM connectors to inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.

  4. Measure the resistance of the reverting valve circuit at the supply module connector to check for an internal short causing high current draw.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the ignition key and disconnect the battery to protect the ECM from further damage.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness between the ECM and the DEF supply module, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.

  3. Replace the DEF Supply Module

    Relieve any residual pressure in the DEF lines. Disconnect the electrical connector, coolant lines (if equipped with a heated module), and DEF lines from the supply module. Unbolt and remove the old supply module. Install the new supply module and reconnect all lines and electrical connections.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

    Reconnect the battery. Use the CNH EST to clear the fault codes.

  5. Perform System Test

    Run a Urea Dosing System Test (UDST) or a DEF flushing test using the diagnostic tool to verify that the supply module builds pressure (approx. 9.0 bar / 130 psi) and that the reverting valve successfully purges the lines upon shutdown.
