Case IH 19145 (DTC 647A) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4 / DCU: DEF/AdBlue dosing valve actuator short circuit to battery failure
Issue description
The engine management system has detected a short circuit on the high side of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) dosing valve actuator circuit, typically caused by either a compromised wiring harness or an internal short within the DEF dosing valve itself.

Check the cause
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position and allow at least 2 minutes to elapse to allow the DEF system to purge fluid back to the tank and depressurize
Disconnect the DEF dosing valve and inspect the wiring harness leading back to the ECU for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to battery voltage
Check the internal resistance of the DEF Injector/Dosing Valve using a multimeter to determine if the short is internal to the component
If you have access to the Case IH EST, run the 'AdBlue Dosing Valve Solenoid test' (or 'Urea Dosing Valve Check') to force the controller to operate the dosing valve output circuit independently
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn the ignition OFF and wait the mandatory 2-minute purge period.
Disconnect Electricals
Locate the DEF dosing valve on the exhaust/SCR system and disconnect its electrical harness.
Isolate the Fault
If your multimeter tests show the wiring harness is sending constant battery voltage on the signal wire, repair the short in the wiring loom. If the wiring is intact and the fault is active, the dosing valve itself is defective.
Remove the Valve
Disconnect the DEF fluid supply lines from the dosing valve (clean up any spilled DEF immediately, as it is highly corrosive). Unbolt the dosing valve from the exhaust pipe.
Install the New Part
Mount the replacement DEF dosing valve, torque the bolts to OEM spec, and reconnect the fluid lines and electrical connector.
Clear Codes
Turn the ignition ON, connect your diagnostic tool, and clear fault code 19145 (DTC 647A). Run a manual dosing test to ensure the system is functioning and no leaks are present.
