Case IH 19149 – DCU (Dosing Control Unit) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control / Engine Control Unit): Dosing Valve (electrical) – short circuit to ground / Reductant Injector - circuit Low

Issue description

The control module has detected a short circuit to ground in the electrical circuit of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) Dosing Valve (Reductant Injector), indicating the voltage has dropped below the minimum threshold.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DCU to the DEF Dosing Valve for melted insulation, chafing against the frame or exhaust, or pinched wires

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the DEF Dosing Valve and inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or fluid ingress (DEF wicking)

  3. Perform a component resistance test on the disconnected dosing valve to check for continuity between the electrical pins and its metal body (continuity indicates an internal short)

  4. Perform a harness short-to-ground test by measuring resistance between the dosing valve control wires and a known good chassis ground with both the DCU and valve disconnected

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorts or system activation.

  2. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic tests revealed a chafed wire, repair the damaged section using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Remove the Dosing Valve

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the DEF Dosing Valve. Disconnect the DEF supply line. Remove the mounting bolts or V-band clamp securing the dosing valve to the SCR mixing chamber/exhaust pipe.

  4. Inspect the Mixing Chamber

    Look inside the exhaust mixing chamber. If there is excessive white scale (crystallized DEF) built up, clean it out carefully.

  5. Install the New Valve

    Mount the new DEF Dosing Valve using a new OEM gasket or sealing ring. Torque the mounting bolts/clamp to OEM specifications.

  6. Reconnect Lines

    Reattach the DEF supply line and plug in the electrical connector. Ensure the connector clicks into place and is secure.

  7. Clear Codes and Test

    Reconnect the battery. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 19149 / P2048 fault codes. Start the engine and run it under load to bring the exhaust up to operating temperature, verifying that the SCR system doses correctly and the code does not return.
