Case IH 19149 (DTC 737A) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): DEF/AdBlue dosing valve actuator short circuit to ground failure

The system has detected a short circuit to ground in the actuator power supply stage of the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) dosing valve, typically occurring during startup or operation.

   Inspect the wiring harness running between the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and the DEF dosing valve for chafing, melting, or exposed wires that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the connectors at the DEF dosing valve and the ECU. Ensure the connectors are not damaged, the pins are in the correct position, the fit is tight, and there is no moisture or corrosion present.

   Use a multimeter to perform a continuity test on the dosing valve actuator circuit to isolate where the short to ground is occurring (in the wiring harness vs. internally inside the valve).

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to run an 'AdBlue Dosing Valve Solenoid test' or 'Urea Dosing Valve Check' to force the controller to operate the circuit independently and verify the electrical fault.

   Power down and disconnect battery

   Power down the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Repair or replace wiring harness

   If the diagnostic tests isolate the short to the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the affected harness segment.

   Remove defective DEF dosing valve

   If the wiring harness tests good but the short is internal to the actuator, remove the defective DEF/AdBlue dosing valve (injector) from the exhaust mixing chamber.

   Install new DEF dosing valve

   Install the new DEF dosing valve and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear fault codes

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and clear the inactive fault codes.

7. 7

   Verify repair

   Bring the engine to operating temperature and run it under load to verify that the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system is operating properly and the fault code does not return.
