Case IH 19152 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Replace DEF/AdBlue Quality Sensor - Internal Open Load (reported via CAN Frame ComRx_CRI1)

The system has detected an internal open circuit (broken internal connection or failed component) inside the DEF/AdBlue Quality Sensor. The sensor is unable to broadcast valid urea concentration or temperature data to the network, and the failure is being reported over the CAN bus via the specific communication frame ComRx_CRI1.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the DEF Quality Sensor on the DEF tank for chafed wires, rodent damage, or tight bends

   Disconnect the sensor and check the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals

   Verify that the sensor is receiving proper supply voltage and ground from the ECU

   Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity back to the ECU

   If external wiring, power, ground, and CAN lines are intact, confirm the open circuit is internal to the sensor, necessitating replacement

   Preparation

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the DEF/AdBlue tank. The DEF Quality Sensor is mounted directly to the tank assembly (often near or alongside the level sending unit/WEMA cover).

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the top of the DEF tank and around the sensor base. DEF systems are highly sensitive to contamination; dirt entering the tank can destroy the DEF pump and injector.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolts or locking ring securing the sensor to the tank.

   Extraction

   Carefully pull the old sensor assembly out of the tank.

   Installation

   Insert the new DEF Quality Sensor, ensuring the new O-ring/seal is properly seated to prevent leaks. Secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the inactive 19152 fault code from the ECU memory.

   Run the engine and monitor the DEF system parameters to ensure the new sensor is broadcasting quality and temperature data correctly over the CAN bus.
