Case IH 19180 (DTC 2DBE) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Management System (EMS): Downstream NOx sensor self-diagnosis result is lower than the limit.
Issue description
The downstream Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) sensor, located directly after the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst, measures the pollutants making it through the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and SCR. This code triggers when the sensor's internal self-diagnosis returns a value lower than the minimum acceptable threshold, indicating that the sensor is likely failing, contaminated, or experiencing a voltage/communication drop.

Check the cause
Perform a dew point / warm-up cycle check. Do not immediately replace the sensor if the machine was just started. The NOx sensor has a 'dew point' warm-up cycle and will read 'not ready' until exhaust heat wicks moisture off the sensor tip. Wait for the sensor to reach 'Ready' status.
Inspect the downstream NOx sensor wiring harness and its electrical connector (typically a 5-cavity female connector) for melted wires, chafing, or corrosion.
Check for accompanying codes related to DEF/AdBlue quality, SCR catalyst efficiency (e.g., DTC 2DDA / 19071), or exhaust temperature. If the DEF dosing module is failing, it can skew downstream NOx readings.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key. Crucial: Allow the exhaust system, DOC, and SCR catalyst to cool completely to avoid severe burns.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the downstream NOx sensor. It is threaded into the exhaust pipe directly after the SCR catalyst.
Disconnect Wiring
Trace the sensor's wire to the module box/connector. Depress the locking tab and disconnect the 5-pin electrical connector.
Remove the Sensor
Use a specialized NOx sensor socket or a standard wrench to carefully unthread the sensor from the exhaust pipe.
Install the New Sensor
Apply a small amount of high-temp anti-seize compound to the threads of the new sensor (if it does not come pre-applied). Thread it into the exhaust pipe by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten to the OEM torque specification.
Reconnect and Route
Plug the electrical connector back into the harness. Ensure the wire is routed away from direct heat sources and secured with zip ties or clamps if necessary.
Clear Codes and Test
Connect a diagnostic tool (like the Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the 19180 / 2DBE fault code. Start the engine and allow it to run through a full warm-up cycle so the sensor can pass its dew-point phase and begin actively monitoring exhaust gases.
