Case IH 19193 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Counter for Charged Air Cooler downstream Pressure
Issue description
This fault indicates an overboost event counter. The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors the charged air cooler (CAC) downstream pressure (boost pressure). If the pressure exceeds a defined maximum threshold, the ECU detects an overboost event and stores the date and duration of the event to rebuild the history of the failure.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Tier 4b
- F-Series Wheel Loaders (1021F, 1121F, W270C, W300C)
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Optum
Check the cause
Check the boost pressure sensor (charged air cooler downstream pressure sensor) for drift, short circuits to ground, or defective wiring
Inspect the Electronic Variable Geometric Turbocharger (EVGT) actuator for a sticking, blocked, or disconnected linkage
Ensure the air filter is not restricted and check the charged air cooler core for internal blockages
Check for extreme environmental ambient pressures that can trigger temporary overboost calculations
Repair steps
Acknowledge the Counter
If this is the only code present, clear the event counter history using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). No physical repair is required for the counter itself.
Inspect the EVGT
Locate the turbocharger and manually inspect the VGT linkage. If the linkage is binding or the actuator is failing to vent boost pressure, clean the linkage or replace the EVGT actuator.
Test the Boost Pressure Sensor
Back-probe the boost pressure sensor harness. Verify it is receiving a 5V reference. If the sensor reads an artificially high pressure when the engine is off (comparing ambient barometric pressure to intake manifold pressure), the sensor has drifted and must be replaced.
Inspect the CAC
Check the ducting and the Charged Air Cooler for physical damage or internal restrictions. Reconnect all ducting and tighten clamp nuts until the clamp spring is fully compressed (typically 40–55 lb-in).
Clear and Road Test
Clear the ECU fault memory and operate the machine under a heavy load to verify the downstream pressure remains within the specified ECU map thresholds.
