Case IH 19203 – VCM (Vehicle Control Module): Implausibility between brake and accelerator pedal detected

This condition occurs when the system receives conflicting signals from the brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously (for example, if the sensors indicate both pedals are being pressed at the same time, or if one sensor is stuck in an active position while the other is engaged).

   Visual/Mechanical Inspection: Check both the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal for physical obstructions, debris, or mechanical binding that might prevent either pedal from fully returning to its resting position.

   Sensor Verification: Use a diagnostic scan tool to monitor the live data for both the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor and the Brake Pedal Switch. Verify that the accelerator reads 0% when released and that the brake switch toggles correctly between ON and OFF without sticking.

   Wiring/Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harnesses connecting the VCM to the brake switch and the accelerator pedal sensor for chafing, shorts to ground/power, or loose connector pins.

   Power down machine

   Disconnect the battery or ensure the machine is powered down.

   Replace brake switch

   If the diagnostic checks isolate the issue to the brake switch, locate the switch at the base of the brake pedal assembly. Disconnect the electrical harness, unthread/unbolt the old switch, install the new switch, and adjust the plunger clearance if required by the specific model.

   Replace accelerator pedal position sensor

   If the issue is isolated to the accelerator pedal position sensor, locate the sensor on the throttle pedal assembly. Disconnect the harness, remove the mounting hardware, and install the replacement sensor. (Some drive-by-wire systems require a calibration routine via a scan tool after replacing the throttle position sensor).

   Test machine

   Reconnect the battery, clear the fault code from the VCM, and test drive the machine to ensure the code does not return.
