19210

Case IH 19210 – Engine ECU (VCM or DCU): Open Load error of DEF/AdBlue Backflow Line Heater Actuator powerstage.

Issue description

The control module is attempting to send electrical power to the heater element inside the DEF backflow line, but it detects zero current draw. This indicates an open circuit, most commonly caused by a broken wire, an unplugged connector, or a burnt-out heating element inside the DEF hose itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4b
  • Case N-Series TLBs
  • Case M-Series Bulldozers (850M, 1150M, 1650M, 2050M)
  • Komatsu WB93R-8/WB97R-8 loaders

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the DEF backflow line for disconnected electrical plugs, chafed wiring harnesses, or physical damage.

  2. Perform a resistance test on the line side of the heated DEF line connector (should read approximately 5.5 ohms ± 1 ohm at 69°F/20°C).

  3. Check the machine-side wiring harness for continuity back to the DCU/ECU to rule out a broken wire in the main harness.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the ignition, remove the key, and allow the system to depressurize and cool.

  2. Disconnect Electrical

Unplug the electrical harness connector linking the DEF backflow line to the main DCU harness.

  3. Disconnect Fluid Lines

Disconnect the DEF backflow line from the DEF dosing injector unit and the DEF supply module/tank. Have a clean catch pan ready, as residual DEF fluid will drain out.

  4. Remove Retainers

Remove the retainer clips and zip-ties securing the DEF line assembly along the frame rail and brackets.

  5. Install New Line

Route the new heated DEF line exactly as the old one was routed. Note: Do not kink the line or route it where it can chafe against sharp frame edges.

  6. Reconnect

Snap the fluid fittings into place at the injector and tank, secure all retaining clips, and plug in the electrical connector.

  7. Clear Codes

Turn the battery disconnect on, reboot the tractor, and use the CNH EST (Electronic Service Tool) or EASy diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 19210 fault code.

Parts you might need
