Case IH 19216 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Open load on Blow By 3-way valve power stage output
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical "open circuit" (open load) in the circuit controlling the Blow-By 3-way valve (also known as the crankcase ventilation valve or CCV heater). The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors the power stage output for this valve and has detected that the circuit is broken, disconnected, or has infinite resistance.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Tier 4b
- Farmall series (95U, 105U, 115U Pro)
- Puma series
- Maxxum series
- N-Series Tractor Loader Backhoes (TLBs)
- Equipment utilizing FPT NEF, F4CE, or F5AE engines
Check the cause
Visually inspect the Blow-By 3-way valve electrical connector for disconnected plugs, pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.
Trace the wiring harness from the Blow-By valve back to the ECU, looking for chafed, broken, or melted wires.
Perform a continuity test on the power and ground wires between the ECU and the valve.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the Blow-By 3-way valve to check for an internal open loop (infinite resistance).
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Valve
Locate the Blow-By 3-way valve on the engine's central valve cover or crankcase breather housing. You may need to remove the engine hood or intake piping for clear access.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the valve.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire in the harness, splice and seal the wire using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors.
Replace the Valve
If the valve itself tested open, remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the valve to the valve cover. Remove the old valve and discard the old gaskets/O-rings.
Install New Valve
Install the new Blow-By 3-way valve using new gaskets (service manuals explicitly state all gaskets must be replaced during assembly). Torque the mounting hardware to OEM specifications.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical harness to the valve. Reinstall any removed engine covers or intake piping.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic scan tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the 19216 fault code. Start the engine and verify the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(2)Blow-By 3-way valve / Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) Valve Heater
Consult the specific Case IH parts catalog using your machine's PIN/Serial Number to get the exact fitment.
Gaskets/O-rings
All the gaskets shall always be replaced during assembly.
