Case IH 19232 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Short circuit to ground of powerstage of Charge Air Cooling Bypass Valve
Issue description
The engine's control module has detected that the electrical circuit controlling the powerstage (the actuator or solenoid driver) for the Charge Air Cooling Bypass Valve is shorting directly to ground, preventing the valve from operating.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the ECM to the Charge Air Cooling Bypass Valve for chafing or rubbing against the engine block, brackets, or exhaust components.
Disconnect the harness at the bypass valve and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or melting that could bridge the power circuit to the ground pin.
Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the bypass valve actuator. A reading at or near 0 ohms indicates an internal short.
With the valve and ECM disconnected, test the power supply wire for continuity to ground to check for a shorted wiring harness.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent any accidental electrical spikes or damage to the ECM during repair.
Locate the Valve
Locate the Charge Air Cooling Bypass Valve, which is plumbed into the charge air cooler (intercooler) piping near the intake manifold.
Disconnect Harness
Unplug the electrical connector from the bypass valve actuator.
Repair Wiring
If your diagnostics found a short in the harness, strip back the protective loom, locate the chafed wire, splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors, and re-loom the harness.
Remove the Valve
If internally shorted, loosen the hose clamps or remove the mounting bolts securing the bypass valve to the charge air piping.
Install New Valve
Clean the mating surfaces. Install the new Charge Air Cooling Bypass Valve, ensuring any O-rings or gaskets are properly seated. Tighten clamps or torque mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new valve. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Clear Codes
Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off). Use a compatible diagnostic scan tool (such as Jaltest or the CNH Electronic Service Tool) to clear the 19232 fault code from the ECM.
Test Run
Start the engine and monitor the ECM for returning codes. Verify that the engine operates normally without derate.
