Case IH 19239 – Engine Control Module (ECM): High pressure intercooler outlet temperature sensor signal failure

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is receiving an erratic, missing, or invalid signal from the temperature sensor located at the outlet of the high-pressure intercooler.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the intercooler outlet temperature sensor for chafing, melting, or breaks.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

   Use a multimeter to check for a short to ground, short to battery, or an open circuit in the signal wire between the sensor connector and the ECM.

   Using a diagnostic scan tool, compare the reading of the intercooler outlet temperature sensor to the ambient air temperature sensor and the intake manifold temperature sensor after the machine has been sitting overnight. If the intercooler sensor reads significantly different from ambient temperature, the sensor is out of calibration and has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the high-pressure intercooler outlet temperature sensor. It is threaded into the charge air piping on the outlet side of the intercooler (between the intercooler and the intake manifold).

   Removal

   Depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Using a deep socket or wrench, carefully unthread the sensor from the charge air pipe.

   Installation

   Inspect the mounting port threads and clean any soot or debris. Thread the new sensor into the port by hand to prevent cross-threading. Tighten the sensor to the OEM torque specification (do not over-tighten, as the sensor body is fragile).

   Reconnection

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 19239 fault code. Start the engine and verify the code does not return.
