Case IH 19250 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Rail leakage detected and oil pressure is low and high crankcase pressure: there is most probably fuel in oil
Issue description
Severe internal engine issue where diesel fuel is leaking into the engine oil (fuel dilution). The system detects a loss of pressure in the high-pressure fuel rail, low oil pressure due to reduced viscosity, and high crankcase pressure due to increased fluid level and volatility.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Tier 4b
- Steiger
- Magnum
- Optum
- Axial-Flow
- FPT Tier 4B and Stage V diesel engines
Check the cause
Check the engine oil level via the dipstick. If the oil level is significantly increased (overfull) and smells of diesel, a fuel system leakage into the oil sump is highly probable.
Check the blow-by / crankcase breather filter to ensure the high crankcase pressure isn't simply being caused by a clogged filter or cracked piston rings.
Check the low-pressure fuel system for clogging (especially the fuel filters) or low efficiency of the supply pump, which can trigger rail pressure errors.
Use a diagnostic tool to monitor for pressure loss in the high-pressure fuel rail to confirm internal leakage.
Repair steps
Locate the Internal Leak
Because the leak is internal (inside the engine overhead/valve cover), you must remove the valve cover to inspect the high-pressure fuel system components.
Inspect High-Pressure Components
Check for internal leakages at the fuel injectors (check if electric injectors close properly), the leaking pressure control valve, or the high-pressure pump.
Repair/Replace the Leaking Component
Replace the faulty injector, high-pressure pump seal, or leaking rail component.
Drain and Replace the Engine Oil
Because the oil viscosity has been dramatically reduced by fuel dilution, you must drain the contaminated oil and replace the oil filter.
Refill and Clear Codes
Refill the engine with fresh, approved engine oil, clear the fault codes, and run the engine to verify that oil pressure returns to normal and crankcase pressure drops.
Parts you might need
(5)Engine Oil
Case IH No. 1 Engine Oil 15W-40 (or approved equivalent)
Engine Oil Filter
OEM part number varies by engine
Fuel Injector / Pressure Control Valve
OEM part number varies by engine; replace the specific component found leaking during the overhead inspection
Valve Cover Gasket
Required for reassembly after inspecting the engine overhead
High-Pressure Fuel Lines
Standard common rail procedure generally requires replacing high-pressure injector lines once they are loosened
