Case IH 19253 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) or Dosing Control Unit (DCU): Short Circuit to Battery of DEF/AdBlue Pressure Line heater Actuator powerstage

The control module has detected a short circuit to battery voltage on the electrical circuit that controls the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) pressure line heater. This means the power stage or the wiring harness is seeing constant voltage when it shouldn't be, usually due to a wiring short, a melted harness, or an internal failure in the heater element itself.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the ECU/DCU to the DEF pressure line. Look for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause the control wire to short against a 12V/24V power source.

   Voltage Check: Disconnect the electrical connector at the DEF pressure line heater. Turn the key to the ON position. Use a multimeter to check the control pin on the harness side for unexpected battery voltage.

   Resistance/Continuity Test: Test the resistance of the heater element inside the DEF line itself. If the resistance is out of specification (near zero ohms), the heating element is internally shorted.

   Pin Inspection: Inspect the connectors at both the DEF line and the ECU/DCU for corrosion, moisture intrusion (DEF fluid wicking into the harness), or bent pins.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and engage the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Component

   Locate the DEF pressure line. It routes from the DEF supply module (pump) on the tank to the dosing module (injector) mounted on the exhaust DOC/SCR assembly.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the machine's wiring harness, repair the damaged section of wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

   Line Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the heater element inside the line is shorted, the entire DEF pressure line must be replaced. Disconnect the fluid fittings at the DEF pump and dosing module (catch and clean any spilled DEF immediately). Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the old line, noting routing and zip-tie locations. Install the new line, routing it exactly as the original. Reconnect fluid fittings and electrical connector.

   System Test

   Turn on the battery disconnect and key. Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear fault code 19253. Run a DEF system prime/doser test via the software to pressurize the line, check for fluid leaks, and verify the electrical fault does not return.
