19266

Case IH 19266 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Coolant level: Low coolant level

Issue description

This code indicates that the engine's coolant level sensor has detected that the fluid in the radiator or coolant expansion tank has dropped below the minimum safe operating threshold.

Applies to these machines

  • Tier 4b
  • Steiger series
  • Magnum series
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • 7100 series
  • 7200 series
  • 8900 series
  • 9100 series
  • Axial-Flow series
  • CPX models
  • Case wheel loaders
  • compact track loaders

Check the cause

  1. Verify Coolant Level: Visually inspect the coolant reservoir and radiator sight glass/dipstick to confirm if the physical coolant level is actually low.

  2. Inspect for Leaks: Check the radiator, heat exchanger, water pump, and all coolant hoses for physical leaks, blockages, or loose clamps.

  3. Check the Sensor and Harness: If the coolant level is full, inspect the coolant level sensor's electrical connector and wiring harness for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to battery positive.

  4. Test the Sensor: Check the sensor for proper resistance to determine if it is mechanically stuck or electrically dead.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely. Never open a hot, pressurized cooling system.

  2. Top Off Fluid

If the system is genuinely low on coolant, top off the reservoir with the OEM-specified 50/50 coolant mix to the 'MAX' line.

  3. Repair Leaks

If a leak was identified during the visual inspection, replace the compromised hose, clamp, or radiator component.

  4. Replace the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness from the coolant level sensor. Place a catch pan under the sensor area to catch any minor fluid loss. Unthread the faulty coolant level sensor from the tank/radiator (many use a 1/8" NPT thread). Thread in the new sensor and tighten it to the manufacturer's specification. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Clear Codes

Turn the key on and use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored 19266 fault code, or run the engine to verify if the code clears actively.
