Case IH 19283 – Electronic System / Universal Controller: Filterbox heater - open circuit

This code indicates a problem within the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid / AdBlue) system. An 'open circuit' means that the electrical path to the filter box heater is broken, typically caused by a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a burnt-out internal heating element.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the DEF pump and filter box assembly for chafing, rodent damage, or severed wires.

   Check the electrical connector to the heater to ensure it is fully seated and free of corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins.

   Unplug the heater connector and use a multimeter to measure resistance (Ohms) across the heater element pins. An 'OL' (out of limits) reading indicates a broken internal element.

   If the heater element tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the heater connector back to the control module to locate the break.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Access the DEF Filter Box

   Locate the DEF supply module/filter box. Depending on the machine architecture, this may require removing protective shielding around the DEF tank.

   Repair or Replace

   If the wiring is damaged: Splice and repair the broken wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors. If the heater element is dead: Remove the DEF filter box heater sub-component (or replace the full pump/header assembly if integrated). Install the new heater/assembly and torque mounting bolts to OEM spec.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the key to the ON position. Access the diagnostic 'H Menu' on the instrument cluster. Navigate to the Universal Controller menu and select 'HC - Clear all stored fault codes' to wipe the inactive code from the EEPROM.
