Case IH 19285 – Body Computer (ComBC) or Engine Control Module (ECM): Timeout Error of CAN-Receive-Frame BCA01 from Air Conditioner Compressor

The CAN bus is monitoring for a specific message frame (BCA01) that contains the Air Conditioner Compressor Status. The control module has registered a "timeout" because it is not receiving this expected data frame from the A/C compressor's CAN controller within the required timeframe.

   Verify the physical presence and correct connection of the Air Conditioner Compressor Unit to the CAN network

   Test for under-voltage at the A/C compressor unit to ensure the compressor's CAN controller is receiving proper operating voltage

   Inspect the CAN cables connecting the A/C unit to the Body Computer for disconnected plugs, broken wires, or short circuits in the wiring harness

   Inspect the Harness

   Locate the wiring harness leading to the A/C compressor. Disconnect the plug and inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back terminals, or moisture ingress. Clean and reseat if necessary.

   Test Voltage and Ground

   With a multimeter, verify that the compressor is receiving steady battery voltage (12V) and has a clean ground. A drop in voltage will cause the compressor's CAN module to drop offline, triggering the 19285 timeout code.

   Check CAN Lines

   Measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the compressor connector to ensure the bus is intact and not shorted to ground or to each other.

   Repair Wiring

   If a break or short is found in the harness between the Body Computer and the A/C compressor, repair the wiring and clear the fault codes.

   Replace Compressor

   If the wiring, power, and ground are all within specification, the internal CAN controller on the Air Conditioner Compressor unit is defective. The compressor assembly must be replaced.
