Case IH 19286 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Timeout of CAN-Receive-Frame CCSSBC, Transmitted by Body Computer
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) is expecting a specific CAN bus message called CCSSBC (Speed limit from Body Computer). This fault code is triggered when the ECM does not receive this data frame from the Body Computer within the expected timeframe, indicating a communication breakdown on the CAN bus network.

Check the cause
Verify the presence and correct connection of the Body Computer to the CAN network, ensuring proper power and ground.
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Body Computer and the ECM for physical damage, rubbed, chafed, or broken wires, particularly where the harness routes under the cab or near articulation points.
Perform a CAN Bus Resistance Test with the battery disconnected. Measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (should read approximately 60 ohms; ~120 ohms indicates an open circuit or failed terminating resistor, ~0 ohms indicates shorted lines).
Verify the CAN configuration settings in the Body Computer using a diagnostic service tool (such as Jaltest or the Case IH EST tool) to ensure it is programmed to broadcast the CCSSBC frame.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to the tractor's diagnostic port to confirm 19286 is active and check if the Body Computer is online. If offline, the issue is likely power/ground to the cab or a severed main CAN line.
Test Power/Ground
Probe the main power and ground pins at the Body Computer connector. If voltage is low or missing, trace the circuit back to the cab relays and fuses.
Isolate the CAN Bus
If the CAN bus resistance is out of spec (not 60 ohms), disconnect modules one by one (ECM, Body Computer, Instrument Cluster) to see if a specific module is pulling the network down.
Check/Replace Terminators
Locate the CAN bus terminating resistors (typically two on the main circuit—one near the engine/ECM and one in the cab/armrest area). If a resistor tests bad (not 120 ohms individually), replace it.
Repair Wiring
If a short or open circuit is found in the harness during continuity testing, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the affected harness segment.
Replace Body Computer
If the wiring is perfectly intact, terminating resistors are good, and the Body Computer has power but its internal CAN controller is failing to transmit the CCSSBC message, the Body Computer itself is defective and must be replaced and reprogrammed.
