Case IH 19287 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Timeout of CAN-Receiving frame CCSS form Body Computer

The primary control module (ECM or VCM) has lost Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication with the Body Computer. The ECM/VCM expects to receive a specific data frame (CCSS) from the Body Computer at regular intervals, and this timeframe has expired without a successful message receipt.

   Scan for associated CAN timeout codes (e.g., 19286, 19292, 19293) to rule out a broader CAN network failure rather than an isolated Body Computer issue

   Verify that the Body Computer is receiving proper battery voltage and has a clean, secure ground connection

   Physically inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the ECM/VCM and the Body Computer for chafed wires, corrosion, or moisture intrusion at the connector pins

   With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the diagnostic port (should read approximately 60 ohms)

   Connect Diagnostic Equipment

   Plug into the machine's 9-pin or OBD2 diagnostic port and pull the freeze-frame data to see the conditions under which code 19287 was triggered.

   Isolate the Circuit

   Disconnect the harness at the Body Computer and the ECM. Use a multimeter to perform continuity tests on the CAN High and CAN Low wires to rule out an open circuit.

   Check for Shorts

   Test the CAN wires for a short to ground or a short to battery voltage. Repair any damaged wiring found in the harness.

   Clean Connectors

   If the wiring tests good, apply electrical contact cleaner to the Body Computer and ECM harness connectors. Reconnect and ensure the locking tabs are fully seated.

   Replace the Body Computer

   If the wiring harness, power, and ground are all verified as functional, the internal CAN transceiver in the Body Computer has likely failed. Replace the Body Computer.

   Reprogramming

   A new Body Computer must be flashed/programmed using OEM dealer software to match the specific configuration of the tractor or combine.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the diagnostic trouble codes and cycle the ignition to verify the repair.
