Case IH 19288 – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Body Computer (Vehicle Control Module): Timeout of CAN-Transmit-Frame Cruise Control 2 (CCVS2)

A Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication error triggered when a module on the CAN network fails to transmit or receive the CCVS2 data frame (which carries cruise control status and speed data) within the expected time limit.

   Check for related CAN timeout codes (such as 19286, 19287, or 19291) which indicate a physical CAN bus issue rather than a specific cruise control fault.

   Inspect the CAN High and CAN Low wiring harness between the Body Computer, the ECM, and the cruise control switches for chafing, breaks, or corrosion.

   Verify the cruise control CAN configuration is set correctly using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

   Check the CAN bus terminating resistors (should measure approximately 60 ohms across the CAN pins with the battery disconnected).

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the machine's battery to protect the electronic modules.

   Clean and Reseat Connectors

   Locate the ECM and Body Computer. Disconnect their main harness connectors, inspect for pushed-out pins or moisture, clean with contact cleaner, and securely reseat them.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed an open or short circuit in the CAN wiring, repair the affected section of the harness using OEM-approved splicing techniques.

   Software/Configuration Update

   If the wiring is physically sound, connect the CNH EST diagnostic tool. Verify the module configurations and re-flash the ECM/Body Computer with the latest software to resolve potential logic errors causing the timeout.

   Module Replacement

   If the configuration is correct, the wiring is intact, and the module still fails to transmit the CCVS2 frame, the transmitting control module (Body Computer or ECM) has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

   Clear and Test

   Reconnect the battery, clear the inactive fault codes, and test-drive the tractor, engaging the cruise control to ensure the CCVS2 timeout does not return.
